Former LSU Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron told WAFB’s Jacques Doucet a couple of weeks ago that he’s ready to get back into coaching.

“It all depends on what the best thing available is,” said Orgeron. “But I’m ready to coach again. I left a little bit of meat on the bone, and I’m ready to go.”

Orgeron, who served as the head coach at Ole Miss from 2005 to 2007, hasn’t coached since parting ways with LSU following the 2021 season.

Coach O went 51-20 — with a win in the national championship game in early 2020 — during his time in Baton Rouge.

Ed Orgeron reportedly has interest in a surprising college football job

There are expected to be quite a few job openings in college football this winter.

Numerous high-profile jobs — Penn State and Virginia Tech, for example — are already open. And others, such as Florida, could also be open soon.

One under-the-radar job that recently opened is Oregon State.

According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Oregron has some interest in the Oregon State job, and he’s open to moving to the West Coast. He spent four seasons at USC, including a stint as the program’s interim head coach, a little over a decade ago.

“A source told On3 this weekend that former LSU coach Ed Orgeron is interested in the job, having had some communication with individuals around Oregon State,” wrote Nakos. “Orgeron has publicly said he wants to get back into coaching, and he’s open to moving to the West Coast.”

Oregon State, or a similar job, will probably be Orgeron’s best bet. He’s unlikely to land a big-time SEC or Big 10 job after being out of the sport for the last four years.
