The Miami Hurricanes got back into the win column in a big way on Saturday, pounding the Syracuse Orange 38-10 inside Hard Rock Stadium to move to 7-2 (3-2) on the season.

It was largely a forgettable game for a half, as Miami finally broke a scoreless tie with two late touchdowns in the first half to take a 14-0 lead into the locker room. The Canes poured it on in the second half to cruise to a 38-3 lead before allowing a touchdown in the final seconds with the backups in for the final score line.

However, Syracuse head coach Fran Brown made things interesting himself with his actions on the field, both during and after the game. Brown was caught on camera jawing with Mario Cristobal during the game.

And after the game, he had – at least to an outsider – a bit of an odd exchange with Miami Hurricanes great Michael Irvin while shaking hands.

Fran Brown and Michael Irvin had a curious exchange after Miami’s win

“With all due respect, I love how you play. Don’t get used to this shit,” Brown said while shaking Irvin’s hand on the field. It looked like he then said, “I love you, though” towards Irvin while backing away and again repeated, “don’t get used to this shit”.

“I got you, coach,” Irvin said as Brown backed away. “I got you. I appreciate you, coach. I appreciate the intensity, coach. That’s good. That’ what it takes. Good job, man. Good job.”

Honestly, to Irvin’s credit, the Playmaker handled the situation very well, complimenting Brown and continuing to shake his hand as the latter tried to walk away after his comment.

Brown is not one to keep his emotions off his sleeves, as he’ll tell things like he feels as much as any coach in college football.

But it looks a lot better when you’re winning, as was the case almost a year ago when the Orange knocked Miami out of the playoff race with a 42-38 win and notched 10 wins on the year. The bravado looks a lot worse when your team is 3-6 and is playing like one of the worst teams in the ACC.

Brown’s style isn’t going to change, so this probably isn’t the last time we’ll see some memorable verbal sparring with coaches and former players by Syracuse’s head coach. Maybe it’ll carry more weight if he can produce a better team in future years.
