Jon Sumrall’s recruiting prowess for the Florida Gators is extending outside of the football program
When the Florida Gators hired Jon Sumrall, everyone knew they were getting a relentless recruiter, and it’s paying dividends.
Recruiting has been a huge asset for the Florida Gators since Jon Sumrall became the head coach. They have 25 commitments, including 17 blue chip recruits, which is among the best in the nation.
The top recruit for the Gators is five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller. He is ranked as the No. 2 overall recruit in the nation, and it’s a massive coup for Sumrall. Hiller is the first five-start offensive lineman since Martez Ivey in 2015. That’s a long time to go without a top recruit. It’s been fun to watch him continue to thrive as a recruiter, and his reach is going further than the football field.
Jon Sumrall’s recruiting extends to the basketball court
One of the unique things about the Gators’ top recruit Hiller is his family lineage. His little brother, Colton, is the top recruit in basketball in the class of 2028, per Rivals. The fact that his brother is going to be visiting Gainesville this weekend will also bring Colton to Gainesville for a visit.
It’s a huge win for Gators head coach Todd Golden on the recruiting trail to get Hiller in Gainesville. He’s a massively sought after recruit being the top player in the nation, and he’s already had a visit to Duke. We’d talked before about the possibility of getting Hiller on campus before due to his brother, but since it hadn’t happened yet, questions had arisen about it happening at all.
Colton hitting campus this weekend will be massive to potentially get him to commit, but also to solidify Maxwell’s commitment to the Gators. It’s a big weekend for both programs, and it’s not just Hiller. They are also hosting five-star point guard Beckham Black. Sumrall’s success on the football side is spreading across campus.
