Michigan and HC Sherrone Moore predicted to land a Wolverine legacy that is going to make everyone feel very old
The Michigan Wolverines are pushing extremely hard for a legacy recruit. It appears their efforts could be paying off.
If you don’t want to feel old, you probably won’t want to see that the Michigan Wolverines are pushing hard for 2027 Orlando (Fla.) Lake Nona safety Charles Woodson Jr.. A Wolverine legacy who is very talented in his own right, Woodson has a natural attraction to the program, which is very easy to understand.
Things are moving quickly between Woodson and Michigan, and an expert prediction was put in recently for the talented athlete to land in Ann Arbor. Steve Wiltfong, who is the vice president of recruiting for the Rivals network, logged his prediction yesterday. The belief is that we could see a decision made soon, although there hasn’t been a public announcement for a defined timeline.
A Wolverine legacy
His father of the same name was a dominant member as part of the Michigan program from 1995-97. Woodson was a big reason that the Wolverines were able to win a national championship during his final season in 1997. During that campaign, Woodson was also able to take home the Heisman Trophy, a very rare feat for a defensive player, even with him playing some on the offensive side.
During his three seasons in Ann Arbor from 1995-97, Woodson was able to haul in 16 interceptions on the defensive side of the football. Woodson also played some offense for the Wolverines as well, hauling in 21 receptions for 370 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 167 yards and two more scores. Add in an impact as a punt returner, and Woodson was the definition of an all-around weapon.
The 6-1, 205-pound defensive back ended up being selected with the No. 4 overall selection by the Oakland Raiders in the 1998 NFL Draft. Woodson was selected to nine Pro Bowls during his 18-year career with the Raiders and Green Bay Packers. During that stretch, Woodson managed to collect 1,220 total tackles and 65 interceptions.
His son is an impressive athlete in his own right. The younger Woodson is currently rated as a four-star player on the 247Sports ranking, sitting as the No. 242 overall player, the No. 23 safety, and No. 29 player in the state of Florida for the 2027 recruiting class.
Woodson is beginning to get more and more attention on the recruiting trail over the last several months. Some of his top offers include the Wolverines, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Florida State, Arkansas, Kentucky, Iowa State, and Syracuse among others. He is fresh off a sophomore season where the 5-11, 160-pound safety managed to collect 53 total tackles, one interception, and two pass breakups. As a junior, Woodson has been even better, collecting 42 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, one interception, and six pass breakups in six games.
