Notre Dame has a huge opportunity this weekend. They will be hosting a really impressive defensive tackle that they will need to push hard for.

Notre Dame football has a huge opportunity in front of it this weekend for its 2027 recruiting class. There is a long list of impressive defensive targets set to make the trip to South Bend. That includes Wellington (Fla.) Palm Beach Central defensive tackle Tyler Alexander

While Chicago (Ill.) Brother Rice defensive tackle Brayden Parks and Exton (Pa.) Downingtown East defensive end Abraham Sesay will be the main topic of conversation, Alexander could end up being a very important recruit for head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish. New defensive line coach Charlie Partridge is putting together an elite 2027 defensive line class. That includes already holding commitments from Aidan O’Neil, Jackson Vaughn, and David Folorunsho

When it comes to Alexander, he’s a massive interior presence that the Irish staff has done an excellent job with in this recruitment. They have the chance to take a major step this weekend, but it does appear they will be trying to make up some ground. Especially after Alexander took an official visit to Georgia this past weekend.

According to multiple sources, head coach Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs made a huge impression this weekend. So much so that there is a belief that Georgia is the leader heading into the last two weeks of official visits. Alexander also has another visit scheduled to Texas two weekends from now, so it’ll be interesting to see if the Fighting Irish or Longhorns can make up ground down the stretch.

It begins with Freeman and Co. this weekend. I have learned not to count out Coach Freeman and his staff during this time of the year. It has a chance to be a very important couple of days on the Notre Dame campus.

Tyler Alexander’s recruiting background

Alexander is considered to be a four-star player on the ESPN ranking, while sitting as a three-star by both Rivals and 247 Sports. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Alexander currently ranks as a four-star, the No. 413 overall player, the No. 47 defensive lineman, and the No. 39 player from the state of Florida for the 2027 recruiting class. ESPN has him rated as the No. 289 overall player and the No. 28 defensive lineman in the class.

Despite some inconsistent recruiting rankings, a long list of impressive programs has been pursuing Alexander. Some of his top offers include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Georgia, Texas, Florida, Texas A&M, Miami, Florida State, Auburn, Missouri, Nebraska, Louisville, Pitt, Kentucky, Colorado, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Maryland, UCF, Syracuse, and Rutgers, among several others.

As a junior in 2025, Alexander put together a tremendous season for Palm Beach Central. In 11 games, the 6-3.5, 315-pound defensive tackle finished with 46 total tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. Alexander also posted 21 more quarterback hurries. He is a massive interior presence who has better movement skills than you would expect for a player his size.
