Caleb Downs has made a strong admission about college football after leaving Ohio State and being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys
Caleb Downs is now a member of the Dallas Cowboys following the 2026 NFL Draft. Now that he’s in the NFL, Downs made a strong admission about his time in college.
The Ohio State Buckeyes had 11 players drafted overall last weekend in the 2026 NFL Draft. There were four former Buckeyes drafted in the first No. 11 picks and it put the writing on the wall for a big draft class coming from Columbus.
Caleb Downs went at the No. 11 pick to the Dallas Cowboys and while it seems like a strong landing spot for him, Ryan Day believes he shouldn’t have been on the board at that point. Downs was one of the biggest impact defenders last year at Ohio State, but he made an admission after the draft about his time in college that’s catching attention.
Caleb Downs’ admission about time in college shouldn’t come as a surprise
If you’re a Cowboys fan, you’re going to love what Downs had to say about his college tenure. The former Nucdjue was asked if he ever got bored in college on Monday.
“Yeah, I’ll honestly say yes,” Downs said.
Why?
“Ball not coming your way. Maybe the talent may not be as good that week,” Downs stated. “You don’t play high-level talent every week in college. That’s just something you have to get used to. Just getting bored with not getting any action.”
This is a fair point made by Downs who was a two-time All-American at Ohio State after one season with Alabama. Ohio State lost its final two games last season to Indiana and Miami, but they weren’t tested a whole lot before then. The Week 1 matchup with Texas was the only other game with under an 18-point spread. Ohio State defeated both Michigan and Washington by 18 points.
Downs had 68 tackles, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles as a defensive leader for Ohio State last year. Teams like Rutgers, Grambling State, and Ohio were never going to be a test for Downs.
College may have brought boring moments for Downs, but it won’t be the case in the NFL. Still with the level of player Downs can be in the NFL, he should hit the ground running.
