After one season with Ohio State basketball, Gabe Cupps is moving on to another Division I program. Cupps will be staying in the Midwest out of the transfer portal.
With the transfer portal now open for over a week, we are beginning to see former Ohio State basketball players find new homes.

Cupps took to Instagram on Tuesday afternoon to announce he would be committing to the University of Illinois Chicago to play for the Flames. UIC is a Division I school in the Missouri Valley Conference and Cupps will have a chance to push for immediate playing time.
During his only season at Ohio State, Cupps played in 33 games and averaged 1.7 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per night. Cupps was Ohio State’s fourth guard in the rotation overall and played 12.3 minutes per game.
Ohio State got the Ohio native Cupps out of the transfer portal a year ago from Indiana where he committed to in the class of 2023 after a standout high school career at Centerville. Cupps was quickly thrown into the fire at Indiana where he started 22 games as a true freshman, but averaged just 2.6 points and 1.2 assists per game.
Going to UIC is a drop-down in competition for Cupps and he’ll get a chance to make more of an impact. Ohio State hoped Cupps’ ability to create and defend would translate to Columbus, but it never happened.
Cupps was rated as the No. 49 point guard and No. 248 player in the transfer portal, according to 247 Sports. After a medical redshirt at Indiana two seasons ago, Cupps will have two remaining years of eligibility left.
