It appeared the Ohio State basketball program landed some big news on Monday evening around guard John Mobley Jr. It was reported Mobley removed his name from the NBA Draft process, but the situation now remains fluid and there’s no current decision made.

Ohio State spokesperson makes statement on John Mobley Jr.

According to Eleven Warriors, an Ohio State spokesperson says Mobley remains in the 2026 NBA Draft despite not being on the list of early entrants. Mobley was omitted from the list due to an NBA paperwork issue.

The door is still open for Mobley to return to Ohio State and it’s been the overall expectation for that to happen. The second-year guard from Reynoldsburg, Ohio has until May 27 to make a decision on his basketball future.

Mobley put up 15.7 points, 2.8 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game in 31 starts for the Buckeyes as a sophomore. The 6-foot-1 guard made 3.1 three-pointers per game at a 41 percent rate for the Buckeyes. It was a solid step forward for Mobley in 2025-2026 following his freshman season where he averaged 13.5 points per game.

Ohio State has the majority of its starting lineup figured out with California transfer G Justin Pippen set to likely join incoming five-star freshman forward Justin Pippen, forward Amare Bynum — and the center spot will be either Josh Ojianwuna or Kentucky transfer Andrija Jelavic.

All eyes will now be on what Mobley’s decision is. Either way it goes it’ll be an impactful one with a player who very well could be Ohio State’s leading scorer next year.
