Former Ohio State football starter turned NFL star has been arrested on serious charges in Colorado

Former Ohio State football standout Jonathon Cooper has been arrested on a serious charge. Cooper is a former five-star recruit turned NFL draft pick from Columbus.

A former Ohio State standout who was a local product from the Columbus area has been arrested on a serious charge. 

Denver Broncos and former Buckeyes EDGE Jonathon Cooper was arrested around 11 p.m. Thursday night in Colorado and is still behind bars, according to TMZ

At this time its unclear what went down, but Cooper was booked into a detention facility at 2:38 a.m., according to the report.

Jonathan Cooper has been arrested on domestic violence charges in Colorado 

The 28-year-old Broncos pass rusher was booked on two charges of domestic violence and criminal mischief in Douglas County, Colo. Cooper will see a judge early Friday, and has another hearing set on Monday, per TMZ. 

Cooper is a Gahanna, Ohio native who spent five years at Ohio State after he was a five-star recruit in high school. At Ohio State, he was a five-year contributor for the Buckeyes with 10 sacks and 76 tackles over his five seasons. After recording 3.5 sacks as a senior, Cooper became a seventh-round pick of the Denver Broncos. 

Jonathan Cooper’s NFL career is just taking off as serious charges come about 

Cooper is currently on a four-year, $60 million extension that has him tied with Denver through the 2028 season. The former seventh-round pick has become a strong success story in the NFL as he’s broken out recently. Cooper has recorded at least eight sacks in each of the last three seasons. 

The former Buckeye was given the Block O jersey in Columbus and has become a leader for the Broncos. Now, he has a serious off-the-field issue to deal with.
