The Ohio State Buckeyes have put themselves right at the top with Alabama and Indiana for an elite five-star wideout that would be a huge get for Cortez Hankton.

The Ohio State Buckeyes held another important recruiting weekend a couple of days ago and they had the No. 1 wide receiver in the country in town.

Ohio State is battling the Indiana Hoosiers and Alabama Crimson tide for Lawrence North (OH) five-star WR Monshun Sales. And it sounds a lot like they have more than a puncher’s chance in landing the elite playmaker.

Latest update on Ohio State’s chase of Monshun Sales

Ohio State hosted Sales for his second to last offical visit with Miami on deck to close things out. According to Lettermen Row’s Alex Gleitman, the visit went really well.

“I am told this was a strong visit for Ohio State and put them square in the mix to land the Indianapolis (IN) Lawrence North product,” Gleitman wrote. “The Buckeyes are battling Indiana and Alabama, with Texas and LSU also working this one as well. I think OSU helped themselves, but I can see this one ultimately coming down to NIL. I do know Ohio State is going to be competitive here, but I think there’s a ceiling to where they go.”

Ohio State has one wideout commitment out of its 14 total with Big Walnut (OH) five-star WR Jamier Brown a firm pledge. Adding someone to the degree of the Sales would give the Buckeyes a huge target at 6-foot-5, 195 pounds. The Indiana native is a major target of the Hoosiers, but Alabama is making a tough push too. Sales looks to have a top-3 of these two schools and the Buckeyes at this time.

For wideouts coach Cortez Hankton, getting Sales would be about the best possible outcome in his first recruiting cycle as the Brian Hartline replacement. It’d not only be a major statement for his ability in Columbus, but it’d show that the Buckeyes are going to be able to continue bringing in high level talent at the position.

Much of recruitment nowadays is around NIL and the Buckeyes won’t have a chance if they aren’t at least semi aggressive in their offer.  It’s notable and good news for them with their stand following the official visit, but the next few weeks will be more telling whether or not Ohio State has a real chance.
