Texas Longhorns hit with potential big loss for Week 2 when Ohio State will travel to Austin
Texas could be without one of its most important players when they host the Ohio State Buckeyes in September.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have to hit the ground running in 2026 because their schedule does them no favors.
It starts in Week 2 against the Texas Longhorns, and every time Ohio State plays Texas, it is a battle. Coach Ryan Day is 2-0 against Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, and he’ll try to make it 3-0 when the Buckeyes travel to Austin for a primetime game.
It’ll be quarterback Julian Sayin’s second time going up against Texas, and Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning will face Ohio State for a second time in what could be a potential College Football Playoff preview between two of the best teams in the sport.
A key development has come about ahead of the big time matchup that’ll likely be one to monitor all the way up until the game.
Texas starter’s knee injury is a significant development for Texas
Ahead of the Week 2 matchup, there’s an important injury to watch. News broke Tuesday that Texas starting left tackle Trevor Goosby suffered a knee injury during practice. The injury is now being called a bone bruise in his left knee, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
A timetable for his return isn’t set yet, but this could be an injury that keeps him out weeks or up to a couple of months, typically. At the very least, he’s questionable right now to expect Goosby to play against Ohio State in Week 2, and that’s a significant development.
Goosby is a legit NFL Draft prospect and potential first-round pick next year. He protects the blind side of Manning, and Manning’s success against an Ohio State defense replacing eight starters could be vital to the Longhorns’ chances of beating the Buckeyes.
Texas plays a tough schedule itself. A year after not making the College Football Playoff last season, the Longhorns are one of the favorites to win it all in 2026. Still, they have to take care of business at home against Ohio State early in the year with what their schedule is going to present them later on. Not having Goosby would be a tough deal for Texas.
It’s too early to know if Goosby will play against Ohio State on Sept. 12, but there are certainly questions around whether that’s going to be possible at this time.
