Former Ohio State HC Urban Meyer got some news he didn’t want to receive involving millions of dollars
Urban Meyer got the answer he’s been waiting for regarding tens of millions of dollars from the Jacksonville Jaguars that he was potentially going to make.
Former Ohio State head football coach Urban Meyer’s career in the NFL finally has complete closure after the latest development involving the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Meyer’s arbitration case with the Jaguars organization has come to a close after multiple years. Meyer was pushing for more than $30 million remaining on his contract when he was fired, but he’s not going to see it.
Jacksonville Jaguars got the final laugh of the Urban Meyer jump to the NFL
Meyer coached just 13 games for the Jaguars during the 2021 season before he was fired with a 2-11 record. According to On3’s Brett McMurphy, the Jaguars have won the arbitration against Meyer and will not owe him as much as $36 million remaining on the contract he signed when he made the jump to the NFL.
It was ruled by an independent arbitrator that Meyer was fired for cause. Multiple former Jaguars players were interviewed during arbitration, including former Jacksonville K Josh Lambo, who was allegedly kicked by Meyer during a practice in Aug. of 2021.
“I’m in a lunge position. Left leg forward, right leg back,” Lambo told the Tampa Bay Times. “Urban Meyer, while I’m in that stretch position, comes up to me and says, ‘Hey dipshit, make your f—— kicks!’ And kicks me in the leg.”
Meyer was making around $9 million annually when he was fired from the Jaguars just three-fourths of the way through his first NFL season as a head coach.
Urban Meyer’s NFL career is one to forget, but he’ll always have the success in college football
Meyer’s jump to the NFL just didn’t work out for multiple reasons. The veteran college football coach and now Fox analyst was able to win 187 career games and three national championships. The former Ohio State head coach captured on with the Buckeyes in 2014, and did the same at Florida in 2006 and 2008.
While at Ohio State, Meyer was a perfect 7-0 against Michigan before his tenure ended in 2018. Meyer cited health reasons for leaving in 2018 when he set Ohio State up with Ryan Day to take over. Three years later was when Meyer took the job with Jacksonville, an era that has complete closer now with arbitration finally over.
