Sooners cash in on momentum after taking down Alabama to add underrated West Coast blue chipper who could elevate defense
Oklahoma’s massive win over Alabama is already paying off in a big win off the field.
The Oklahoma Sooners are flying high after an upset victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, taking down the Tide 23-21. That victory puts them back in the driver’s seat for the College Football Playoff, and they are hoping they can ride that momentum all the way to a strong finish with their next two games at home against Missouri and LSU.
The Sooners are already cashing in that momentum off the field, however, as their recruiting staff has been on fire ever since the clock hit double zeros. That work has borne fruit already, as Oklahoma has their first commitment following their massive win.
Mikyal Davis Joins Sooners Class of 2027
- Class of 2027 Mikyal Davis becomes the seventh commit to join the Oklahoma Sooners’ class
- Davis is the second cornerback to join Oklahoma’s class, joining four-star Mikhail McCreary
- Chose the Sooners over Alabama, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Texas, USC, Oregon, Miami, Indiana, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Texas A&M
Mikyal Davis, one of the top corners from the West Coast and top prospects out of Arizona, has chosen the Sooners over a veritable boatload of elite blue blood suitors. The Sooners have made Davis one of their top priorities in the 2027 class, and in the words of Steve Wiltfong “no program has made Davis more comfortable with the situation on and off the field.”
Oklahoma Director of Player Personnel and Retainment Stacey Ford has played a key role in the Sooners’ prowess out west in the class of 2026 and 2027, and took a prominent role in securing Davis’s commitment. As well as a talented cover prospect, Davis also is a standout track player, further reinforcing Oklahoma’s focus on multi-sport athletes in their recruiting.
Davis joins an Oklahoma 2027 class that currently sits second in the country, but could overtake that top spot with future commits joining Davis in the coming months. If the Sooners can continue their momentum on field, it should pay off in a big way off the field here in the near future.
