Oklahoma Sooners have been predicted to land three new commits in the 2028 recruiting class who can be elite players

The Oklahoma Sooners have some really good players in their 2027 recruiting class, and 2028 could end up being similar after being predicted to land some.

The Oklahoma Sooners have landed predictions for three 2028 recruits, and they could be huge for their recruiting class.

Two are linebackers who play on the same high school team in Texas, and the third is a fast wide receiver from one of California’s best programs. OU currently holds the No. 6 class in the 2028 cycle. Adding these three would push it even further.

The first prediction is for Tylan Henderson, a Rivals300 linebacker from Pflugerville, Texas. He’s listed at 6-foot-1, 210 pounds, and is a top-200 player in Rivals’ Industry Ranking.

According to Rivals analyst Sam Spiegelman, Henderson is predicted to commit to Oklahoma.

Tylan Henderson and Reagan Smith’s rankings per Rivals

Henderson, the four-star LB, has made three visits to Oklahoma, and those trips seem to have gone well for the Sooners. His list includes Oklahoma, Texas Tech, SMU, Texas A&M, and Ohio State. Right now, OU leads that race with an 85.6% prediction rating.

That said, he’s visited Texas Tech the most and has been to SMU three times. So the Red Raiders and Mustangs have done their work. Still, landing a four-star linebacker from Texas would be a big win for Oklahoma’s class.

Then there’s Reagan Smith, who is Henderson’s teammate and a three-star LB. They play the same position on the same team, which could make this a package deal of sorts for the Sooners. Smith is a little bigger at 6-3, 220 pounds, but he isn’t rated as highly. Spiegelman also predicts he’ll commit to OU.

Smith has taken three visits to Oklahoma, which is the second most of any school. He’s been to Houston four times. His top five are Oklahoma, Houston, Oklahoma State, Duke, and Miami. However, the Sooners have an 83.5% chance of landing him.

The physical tools are already there. Smith is well above the height and weight benchmarks for his age, and he has the size to contribute right now, whether that’s on special teams or playing a handful of snaps on defense. It’s everything else that needs to develop as he goes along, and that’s what the next couple of years are for.

Oklahoma’s surprise favorite out in California

The Sooners also landed a prediction for three-star wide receiver DJ Tubbs, who plays at St. John Bosco in Bellflower, California. Tubbs is 5-10, 180 pounds, so he’s not the biggest receiver. But he’s extremely fast, and Oklahoma seems to really like him. The feeling appears to be mutual.

He currently holds a 95.2% prediction rating to land with Oklahoma, which is the highest of the three. His other schools are UCLA, Arizona State, California, and Notre Dame. He’s visited Arizona State, UCLA, and Cal once each. Here’s the odd part: Tubbs hasn’t visited Oklahoma yet. That doesn’t seem like an issue, though, because he really likes OU. Getting him to Norman for an official visit would only help.

Where the Sooners’ 2028 class stands

Four-star linebacker Jay Schell, four-star quarterback Trey Tagliaferri, four-star tight end Connor Arrant, and three-star wide receiver Colton Fitzgibbon are all committed to OU’s 2028 recruiting class.

Adding Henderson, Smith, and Tubbs would greatly help the class. Two more linebackers would pair with Shell, and Tubbs would give the Sooners a second receiver alongside Fitzgibbon with a different skill set.

The Sooners currently have the No. 6 class in the 2028 cycle. It’s impossible to predict exactly what a class will look like this early, and predictions aren’t commitments. It’s still early, and there’s a lot of work to do. Either way, this is a strong sign for Brent Venables and his staff.
