Oklahoma Sooners hinging the future of the program on success against the Michigan Wolverines in must-have win
The Oklahoma Sooners are set to play host to a record-setting number of recruits in their upcoming matchup against the Michigan Wolverines
For months, the Oklahoma Sooners have had their Week 2 matchup against the Michigan Wolverines circled. This game brings an early chance to make a statement that could sway the rest of the season and give them serious momentum heading into the beginning of their SEC schedule. Furthermore, if the Sooners want to get involved in any conversations surrounding the College Football Playoff, they have to beat the Wolverines
It’s the biggest game of the week, and the eyes of the nation will all be on it. However, earning the favor of the CFP committee isn’t the biggest achievement the Sooners are hoping to grasp with a victory on Saturday.
Oklahoma Set To Host A Historic Recruiting Weekend
The Sooners are pulling out all of the stops this week in one of the biggest home games in recent memory. When Oklahoma squares off against Michigan, they will do so in front of a truly record-setting number of recruits across the 2026, 2027, and 2028 classes.
I have been following the Sooners for over a decade now and I cannot recall a visitor list as long as the one Oklahoma has confirmed for this epic showdown. By my count (and this could change by the time this publishes), the Sooners are playing host to 84 recruits spanning the three upcoming classes, including over 50 from the 2027 class.
While I won’t write out the full list, it’s a strong list across all three classes. The entire 2026 crop of commits, led by QB Bowe Bentley and EDGE Jake Kreul, are heading to Norman and will be joined by four-star EDGE KJ Ford (currently a Florida commit) and three-star OT Daniel McMorris (recent decommit from Minnesota).
However, it’s the 2027 class that is the most eyebrow-raising, both from quality and quantity. Five stars OT Kennedy Brown (currently the #1 player in the 247Composite Rankings), CB Joshua Dobson, DT Jalen Brewster, OT Cooper Hackett, LB Cooper Witten, RB Landen Williams-Callis will all be in attendance alongside top-100 recruits IOL Kaeden Penny, DB JayQuan Snell, CB Jerry Outhouse Jr., EDGE Zane Rowe, and Eli Johnson.
No recruit will make their decision based off of a single game, win or lose. However, a victory this weekend against the Wolverines would be a massive, maybe even monumental, momentum builder for the program as they seek to rebound from two years of negative recruiting affecting their 2025 and 2026 classes.
If they can pull it off and deliver a strong impression to these recruits, their 2027 class and 2028 class could be significantly better than their last few.
