Oklahoma Sooners land the one recruit they have been waiting on for some time to help extend their 2027 recruiting class lead
The Oklahoma Sooners have been waiting on 2027 athlete and safety Bode Sparrow to commit for some time.
The Oklahoma Sooners added another major piece to their 2027 recruiting class, landing four-star athlete Bode Sparrow out of Utah.
Sparrow, a 6’2, 195-pound prospect, is the No. 2 athlete in the 2027 class, the No. 1 player in the state of Utah, and a top-60 player nationally with a 93.53 composite ranking on Rivals Industry. He chose Oklahoma over BYU, Utah, and Oregon after visiting with the Sooners three times.
“Sooner Nation, let’s get it,” Sparrow said in his commitment announcement.
What Bode Sparrow brings to Oklahoma
While Sparrow is listed as an athlete, he will likely play safety for the Sooners. That projection makes sense given his size, length, and two-way playmaking ability. There is already a comparison floating around between Sparrow and Buffalo Bills safety Cole Bishop, who played at Utah before making the jump to the NFL. Sparrow has that kind of versatility and range.
The wrinkle here is that Sparrow actually plays wide receiver at his high school in Utah. That makes this commitment worth watching on multiple levels. The Sooners have had a well-documented struggle landing a third receiver in this 2027 class. Oklahoma currently has Tre’Von Hall and Malahn Green committed at the position, but has not been able to close on another target. Sparrow’s background as a receiver gives him some natural ball skills, even if safety is the likely destination on the depth chart.
Sparrow only strengthens what could be the best class in the country
This commitment is another brick in what the Sooners are building with this 2027 recruiting cycle. Oklahoma continues to pile on talent, and the class is in the conversation for the best in the entire country. Sparrow’s decision to pick the Sooners over programs like Oregon and Utah says something about where Brent Venables and his staff stand on the recruiting trail right now.
Sparrow can be an elite addition to this class. His combination of size, athleticism, and positional flexibility gives Oklahoma options, and the three visits before his commitment suggest a strong relationship with the coaching staff that should hold through signing day. Now, the Sooners just have to figure out that third receiver spot. They have a good safety duo in Sparrow and Jaylen Scott, two four-star players.
