Oklahoma Sooners are finally getting the version of a key player they have hoped for years they would get
The Oklahoma Sooners love what Danny Okoye is going to be able to do in 2026 and what he’s transformed his body into.
The Oklahoma Sooners have been producing elite defensive linemen for the last few years. In just a few days, we will see at least two of those guys get drafted in Gracen Halton and R Mason Thomas.
Next season, we could see Taylor Wein, David Stone, and even Jayden Jackson in that same position. We’ve been waiting for a guy like Danny Okoye to make that kind of jump, too. And, who knows, maybe he does this year. He’s been thought of as a guy with some pretty insane potential for a few years now. However, we have yet to really see that yet.
2026 could be the year.
Brent Venables talks edge rusher Danny Okoye
“He was more consistent than he’s ever been… He’s been more focused than he’s ever been… He’s got a great vision for what he wants to accomplish,” Venables said of Okoye.
Okoye came out to the spring game on Saturday, and physically looked like the final product of what we all know he can be. He’s jacked and built like a Greek god. However, none of that matters if he doesn’t have the tools needed to get to the passer and play the run. At 6’4, 245 pounds of pure muscle, Okoye can be unstoppable. But we have to see the rest of that in action against the SEC team.
He’s played only 13 games in his college career, but Okoye has shown significant potential and flash during that time. He can be a game wrecker, and Oklahoma may need that throughout the season. Last year, they had a ton of depth on the defensive line, rotating guys in and out and always keeping everyone fresh. That’s a huge advantage.
Right now, Okoye is projected to be the second-string RDE behind PJ Adebewore to start the season. However, Adebewore is currently dealing with some injuries and recovering from an operation on his foot. Right now is Okoye’s time to prove himself.
