The Ole Miss Rebels escaped a hostile environment in Norman, Oklahoma, on Saturday afternoon with a huge win. The Rebels endured Oklahoma’s best haymakers to prevail, 34-26. Ole Miss started slower than expected, and it seemed as though the Rebels might’ve been giving in to the Lane Kiffin-to-Florida rumors.

Instead, the Rebels made clutch plays throughout the second and fourth quarters, closing out when they needed it most. Nine unanswered points in the fourth quarter closed it out, and the Rebels survived one of the most hostile road games in the country. They should rise even higher in rankings next week with the win.

Kiffin, though, provided a hilarious moment that only he could in the immediate aftermath as teams shook hands. Here’s what happened in the post-game handshakes.

Lane Kiffin blasts Oklahoma’s David Stone for smack-talking

As soon as the teams met in the middle of the field and Kiffin was able to start his post-game media minute, a hot mic caught him addressing Oklahoma defensive tackle David Stone. Stone, who logged two-straight tackles for loss at one point, had been heard yelling at Kiffin that the run game wasn’t working.

Kiffin remembered and called him out for it when the sideline reporter heard their interaction. The Ole Miss head coach revealed why he had to say something to Stone.

“This guy yelled at me during the game like five times, saying how great they are and we can’t run on them,” Kiffin playfully said. Ole Miss totaled only 116 yards on 41 carries, but did run for two touchdowns. It was hard to hear what he had said to Stone at the start of the clip.

As usual, Kiffin’s personality came through in the best of ways. He surely appreciated Stone’s competitiveness, and Kiffin’s willingness to engage is what makes him such a likable and effective program builder.
