The Texas Longhorns added one of the best players in the 2027 recruiting class, landing five-star interior offensive lineman Ismael Camara. The 6’6, 345-pound prospect from Gilmer, Texas, chose the Longhorns over Oregon, SMU, and LSU, giving Texas a massive win on the offensive line.

“I’m from Gilmer, Texas. It’s in my blood. Hook ’em,” Camara said.

Camara is a 96.00 composite-rated player on Rivals’ industry ratings. He ranks as a top-14 player in the country, the No. 2 player at his position, and the No. 3 player in the state of Texas. Texas A&M was also in the mix at one point, but the Aggies were near the bottom of Camara’s list.

SMU made a strong push

The visit breakdown tells a compelling story about this recruitment. SMU hosted Camara six times, while Texas, Oregon, and LSU each had three or four visits. Alabama and Texas A&M had two apiece. The fact that SMU racked up that many visits shows just how hard the Mustangs pushed for Camara, even though they’re considered a much smaller program than Texas. The Longhorns’ four visits proved to be enough, and the in-state factor clearly played a significant role in his decision.

What scouts see in Camara

When you look at Camara’s physical profile, there’s a lot to like. Scouts have compared him to Kadyn Proctor because of his massive frame and high ceiling as a mover. He checked in at around 6’6, 335 pounds prior to his senior season, so he could be even bigger now. His arms measured at 33 inches at the Rivals Five-Star Challenge in 2025, giving him the length that offensive line coaches covet.

Beyond the measurables, Camara has wide hips, good footwork, and has worked to reshape his body. That combination of elite size and physical development suggests he could be ready to contribute early. Texas is getting a prospect who has the tools to be an absolute monster on the interior and the work ethic to maximize that potential.

Texas’ 2027 class is quietly building momentum

This commitment is a significant addition to the Longhorns’ 2027 recruiting class, which is flying under the radar. Landing a five-star offensive lineman with Camara’s profile and keeping him in-state sends a strong message to the rest of the recruiting landscape. Texas is stacking talent along the offensive line, and Camara fits the mold of the kind of player who can anchor an interior for years.

The Longhorns didn’t need the most visits to close this one. They just needed the right pitch and the pull of home.
