A top NFL draft prospect really wants to play for Kansas City Chiefs
One of the top prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft would love to play for the Kansas City Chiefs. And he’s already been watching film with Andy Reid.
The Kansas City Chiefs have the final pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft due to their Super Bowl LVII win against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Having the last pick in the first round obviously isn't as exciting as having a top 10 pick, but I don't think the Chiefs mind it since it means they took home the Lombardi Trophy last month.
Despite having a late first round pick, the Chiefs could still have a shot at landing one of the most dynamic players in the draft.
And the good news for Kansas City is that it sounds like he'd really like to play for the Chiefs.
Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt is one of the fastest prospects in this year's draft. The South Carolina native became a fixture on Sportscenter this past season thanks to his ability to blow past defenders and reach the end zone.
Hyatt set a school record at Tennessee with 15 receiving touchdowns in 2022. Five of those touchdowns came in the Vols' memorable 52-49 win against Alabama.
The speedy wide receiver spoke to reporters at the combine on Friday and he said that he wouldn't mind catching passes from Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City.
Hyatt also revealed that he watched some game film with Chiefs HC Andy Reid during a pre-draft meeting.
Kansas City would probably be the best fit for Hyatt. His ability to stretch the field would pair well with Mahomes' big arm and Reid's creative offense.
And speaking of Reid's offense, there are actually some similarities in what the Chiefs do and what Tennessee did this past season under HC Josh Heupel.
The Vols, for example, loved utilizing switch releases with Hyatt just before the ball was snapped. That's something we saw the Chiefs do a couple of times in their win against the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.
Reid loves exploiting weaknesses in the defense which is essentially what Tennessee would do week to week with their offense.
It's possible that Hyatt could go before Kansas City gets a chance to select him. While they probably shouldn't give up too much to trade up to get him, it's a scenario they should at least consider. Hyatt may not be Tyreek Hill (they don't make many receivers like him), but he has Hill-type speed. And we already know that Chiefs know how to properly use that kind of elite speed.
