The Miami Dolphins are in Houston, TX this week for joint practices with the Texans, which will take place on Wednesday and Thursday. The teams will face off in each team's second preseason game on Saturday at 4:00 pm from NRG Stadium.
The Dolphins left the first weekend of the preseason with some questions, some injuries, and some positive surprises. Those have opened the door for some players to step up and seize a big opportunity this week in Houston.
Here are three Dolphins who can make a big move this week…
3) Elijah Higgins
The former Stanford wide receiver showed off his extremely intriguing skillset as a receiving tight end against the Falcons with 36 receiving yards on two catches, including a 28-yard catch and run.
He's not going to wow anyone with his blocking. That's not his strong suit. That said, he could serve as a valuable receiver in the slot that could take advantage of underneath routes. Miami's tight end room is doing next to nothing right now in the passing game, so a flashy week with another productive game could really help him land on the right side of the cut line for the 53-man roster.
2) Isaiah Wynn
Incumbent LG starter Liam Eichenberg is going through an unspecified "nagging" injury that will see him limited, per Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel on Wednesday. As such, Wynn could see his time on the field with the first team offensive line increase as a result.
Wynn performed well in the Dolphins' preseason opener. One of his more noteworthy plays was to help blow open a running lane up the middle for RB Myles Gaskin, who scampered 35 yards.
If he can continue his momentum through Houston, he could find himself up on the top line of the depth chart in short order.
1) Noah Igbinoghene
Speaking of opportunity through injury, the red sea has all but parted for the Dolphins' former first round pick. With Kader Kohou and Cam Smith both banged up and Nik Needham still on the PUP list, the opportunity could not be brighter for Igbinoghene.
After getting some praise for solid work in the early stages of training camp, he has a clear opportunity to take over the driver's seat for the starting outside cornerback spot opposite Xavien Howard. A good week of practice and a solid showing on Saturday would give him a very big push towards that end.
