The Miami Dolphins were one of a number of teams believed to have had interest in acquiring Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor.
Now, it seems they may be separating themselves from the pack in their pursuit of him.
According to A to Z Sports Colts beat writer Destin Adams, the Dolphins are one of two teams to have actually made a trade offer to Indianapolis for their disgruntled star running back.
The Miami Dolphins are arguably the only contender that I've been able to confirm their interest in acquiring Jonathan Taylor. Their offense is headlined by star pass catchers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. And their QB is coming off his best season in the NFL that sadly ended after a scary run of concussions cut his season short. The Dolphins have not been afraid to make big moves in recent years as they traded for stars Jalen Ramsey and Tyreek Hill. Their division (AFC EAST) will be a fight week in and week out as two other teams have Super Bowl aspirations in the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets. So, could acquiring a player of Jonathan Taylor's magnitude help swing the division in their favor?
A league source shared with me that the Dolphins are one of the teams to express interest in Jonathan Taylor. And I can confirm that they are one of the two teams who have extended an offer to acquire Taylor. A source also detailed the teams' interest by saying, "At this time, they definitely feel the most motivated to get a deal done." – Destin Adams, A to Z Sports
Miami's interest in Taylor appears to be very much real, but the question is money and draft compensation. The Dolphins still have to pay Christian Wilkins, the anchor of the Dolphins' defense. Not to mention the issue of paying top money and giving up draft picks for a non-premium position.
The latter makes little sense because GM Chris Grier has never had an inclination to do either. He had a chance to land Dameon Pierce with pick 102 last year despite a glaring need for a young, tough, and physical runner and passed on him for Channing Tindall, who has yet to make an impact.
This is a move that simply doesn't make much sense given Grier's recent track record, and it could be one that Dolphins fans will either celebrate – or have to swallow – sooner than later.
