Earlier this week, a national college football analyst made the boldest prediction yet for the Tennessee Vols in 2022.

Saturday Down South’s Connor O’Gara told SEC Network host Paul Finebaum that he thinks the Vols will beat the Georgia Bulldogs this upcoming season.

That’s certainly bold.

The Bulldogs are the defending national champions and they haven’t lost to Tennessee since 2016.

In 2021, Georgia beat UT 41-17. The Vols hung with the Bulldogs for about 30 minutes. Georgia, however, broke the game open in the second half as they exposed Tennessee’s lack of depth.

The Vols should be better in 2022. It’ll be the players’ second season in Josh Heupel’s up-tempo offense. Everything should look crisper for Tennessee.

A lack of depth, though, will still be an issue for the Vols. And that’s probably going to be the difference in this game again. When it comes to the scheme, the Volunteers can beat Georgia. But for now, Tennessee still doesn’t have the depth to win against the Bulldogs for four quarters.

I think we’ll see a Vols team in 2022 that can win 10 games. And I think they’ll beat Florida and maybe even LSU down in Baton Rouge. But it’s hard for me to see them beating Georgia in Athens this upcoming season.
