A New York Giants writer for USA Today pushed back this week against a negative report about former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt.

The Twitter account "NFL Rookie Watch" sent a tweet this week suggesting that folks who have observed Giants practices this spring think it will be hard for Hyatt, a third-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, to earn a substantial role in New York's offense.

The Twitter account doesn't cite its source for the report, but it appears it comes from Dan Duggan, The Athletic's Giants reporter.

Here's what Duggan's report said:

From The Athletic: The Giants are bringing rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt along slowly. The third-round pick mostly worked with the third-team offense this spring.

Wide receivers coach Mike Groh dismissed concerns about Hyatt’s limited route tree in college, while acknowledging that it’s a big adjustment for any rookie receiver to transition to the NFL. At the very least, Hyatt could have a role as a deep-threat specialist as rookie. But it looks like it’ll be an uphill climb to unseat established veterans for a more substantial role early in the season

As you can see, Duggan's report isn't nearly as negative as the NFL Rookie Watch Twitter account made it out to be (in fact, it's nor really negative at all — it just states the obvious that New York isn't rushing Hyatt).

USA Today's Art Stapleton immediately pushed back against the tweet/report.

"As someone who was at all four of the Giants' open practices this spring, I'd say making a definitive statement about Jalin Hyatt's rookie season is a bit premature based on what transpired in 7v7 live drills and 11v11 walkthroughs to this point," tweeted Stapleton.

Hyatt has dealt with a ridiculous amount of criticism over the last few months. But he's handled every bit of it like an absolute pro despite only being 21 years old.
