Tennessee Titans GM Jon Robinson and HC Mike Vrabel dropped some huge updates on Titans rookie WR Treylon Burks ahead of training camp.
The updates came when both Robinson and Vrabel, as well as Titans VP of Player Personnel Ryan Cowden spoke to the media on Tuesday to open training camp and kick off the season.
Earlier this week, Dianna Russini, an NFL Reporter for ESPN, reported a rumor that Burks had been coming along well, and was greatly improving on his conditioning issues he struggled with in rookie minicamp.
Russini said on ‘The Athletic Football Show Podcast‘ that Burks had been losing weight and getting in shape:

Tuesday’s comments from both Vrabel and Robinson seemed to confirm those claims. According to the Titans, Burks is running well, making plays, and doing much better in the conditioning tests than he did in minicamp.

“I’m certainly excited with the trajectory that he’s on, we’ll take it day by day.”
– Titans General Manager Jon Robinson
The progress from Burks should not only be exciting for Robinson, but for Titans fans too.
The franchise invested a lot in Burks after making the trade that sent AJ Brown to Philly on draft night, and they are relying on him to make an immediate impact in 2022.
I’ve previously talked about how essential his training camp growth will be for the Titans success in 2022, but seeing that he’s taken early strides can certainly alleviate some of those concerns.
This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still be concerned or skeptical about Burks, but it’s encouraging to have confirmation that the Titans have been more satisfied with what they’ve seen recently.
To this point, we haven’t been able to see him in action to make an assessment on his play, and all we have gotten from the Titans coaches and executives is political answers (or straight up non-answers) about his conditioning.
It’s refreshing to have a “feel good” update on Treylon Burks as the season ramps up, and hopefully as camp and the preseason games get underway, we can finally have something tangible to hang our hats on.
