The media world is once again spreading misinformation and spinning a negative narrative about Tennessee Titans first round draft pick and rookie WR Treylon Burks.
Burks was mentioned on the NFL player news feed for NBC Sports Edge, and the update given was completely misleading.
Here's what is said on in the article:
Titans first-round WR Treylon Burks has been practicing with the second- and third-string offenses.
Burks has gotten off to a bumpy start in his first NFL offseason, battling conditioning issues in the spring and now lining up wrong and not running through his routes. He's been repping with the Logan Woodside and Malik Willis units, while Robert Woods, Nick Westbrook-Ihkine, and fellow rookie slot man Kyle Philips have mainly been repping with Ryan Tannehill's group. Burks is supposed to be the Titans' replacement for A.J. Brown, but he's got a long way to go. Of course, things can change quickly, and Burks' talent can vault him up the depth chart fast, but he's not looking like a player worthy of much more than a late-round fantasy flier at the moment.
The page also cited the following tweet from Titans writer Mike Herndon as their source on the matter:
Herndon himself later clarified that his tweet was being blown out of proportion, saying that "Burks also worked with Tannehill. He lined up wrong once. He's largely been good (sometimes very good) in camp."
As someone on the sidelines for Titans practice every day, I can say with confidence that Burks is not accurately reflected in the update from NBC Sports Edge.
Has he been working in with Malik Willis and Logan Woodside at time? Yes. Has he made a few rookie mistakes in his line ups and route running? Yes, but Herndon's follow up tweet hit the nail right on the head.
Burks has been with Ryan Tannehill and the 1's more often than not in practice, and he has, more often than not, been flashing the tools that earned him a first round grade out of Arkansas.
Just a few days ago, during a critical "1-minute drill" simulation, Tannehill threw two balls to Burks in 1-on-1 coverage against Caleb Farley with "the game on the line". That shows you the confidence his quarterback already has in him.
Take it from someone who watches him everyday: Treylon Burks is legit.
He is fast, physical, and has strong enough hands to make any catch through contact. He's also very difficult to tackle after the catch.
Burks is not the most polished route runner on the field, but I don't believe he needs to be. His flashiest plays so far in training camp (and in college) have come when using his body to his advantage. A real matchup nightmare.
He will be an integral part of the Titans offense week one against the Giants, and then we can see what the "player news feed" has to say.
