One of the big concerns about the Tennessee Vols entering the 2022 season was whether or not they could keep pressure on opposing defenses after the first quarter.

The Vols got off to several fast starts last season, only to slow down after the first quarter. As a result, keeping their foot on the gas was a focus for Tennessee during the offseason.

Based on Thursday night against Ball State, it appears that the Vols have made some progress in that area.

Last season, it took Tennessee until their 11th game of the season to score more points in the second quarter than they did in the first quarter (they also accomplished that feat the next week against Vanderbilt).

On Thursday night against Ball State, the Vols once again got off to a quick start by scoring 17 points in the first quarter. But they didn't let up after their first start — Tennesse scored 21 points in the second quarter.

Sure, it's just Ball State. But this is something the Vols didn't do last season against teams like Bowling Green or Tennessee Tech.

It's obviously early in the season and we still have a lot to learn about the 2022 version of the Vols. But their ability to keep their foot on the gas is certainly a good sign.
