2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges gave Tennessee fans plenty to be excited about on Thursday night when he totaled 250 yards and three touchdowns in Baylor School’s win over Brentwood Academy.

The Vols commit, however, also gave Tennessee fans something to worry about.

We don’t have official numbers, but Gabriel Georges broke what felt like a million tackles on Thursday night. He also lost his helmet more than a few times.

“I’ve never seen that many people try to snatch my helmet,” said Gabriel Georges after the game.

Vols fans don’t want to see David Gabriel Georges get hurt

Gabriel Georges runs hard — he’s got that dog in him — which means he’s going to deal with plenty of contact this season.

And Vols fans are already nervous about the thought of him getting injured after watching him break so many tackles on Thursday night.

It’s understandable. Every team that plays against Gabriel Georges this season will be gunning for the five-star running back. I’m not saying those teams will try to take cheap shots — though all it takes is one rogue player doing that to ruin his season — but they all want to be the team that holds Gabriel Georges in check. They’re going to put all of their focus on trying to stop Gabriel Georges.

The good news for Vols fans, though, is that Baylor head coach Erik Kimrey doesn’t plan on giving Gabriel Georges a huge amount of touches this fall.

“They’ll limit [his touches],” said VolQuest’s Brent Hubbs on Friday on 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will. “Coach Kimrey does a really good job of managing reps. He had a bunch of yards last year, but he did not have a ton of carries. And when they get into games that they don’t need to use him a lot, they’ll be very cautious and very mindful of him.

“There will be a lot of games where you look up and he’s got eight carries in the game instead of 18 carries or 20 carries. But when it’s go time, it’s go time. And last night, it was obviously go time in the second half. And it’ll be go time against McCallie, and it’ll be go time during the playoffs.”

Gabriel Georges is going to do what needs to be done to help Baylor win every game on its schedule this season, but it sounds like Kimrey isn’t going to be giving him 30 carries a game when it’s not needed.
