The Tennessee Vols will host 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges on an official visit this upcoming weekend.

Gabriel Georges, 6-foot/205 pounds, is rated as the No. 2 running back in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee (Gabriel Georges attends Baylor School in Chattanooga, but he’s from Canada).

Tennessee’s top competition for Gabriel Georges is Ohio State.

The five-star running back took his official visit to Ohio State this past weekend. And according to Buckeyes insiders, the fact Gabriel Georges took his official visit to Columbus reveals something important about his recruitment.

The latest on David Gabriel Georges following his official visit to Ohio State

According to Lettermen Row, Ohio State did something a little different with official visits this past weekend.

Instead of discussing NIL numbers with recruits during their official visit, Ohio State exchanged numbers with those recruits pre-visit.

It’s believed that this approach led to fewer players being on campus at Ohio State for official visits over the weekend.

Lettermen Row’s Jeremy Birmingham suggested that the fact that Ohio State took this approach and Gabriel Georges still visited indicates the two sides are at least close on financial details.

Some Ohio State fans had previously been concerned that the Buckeyes may not be willing to go high enough for the highly-touted running back.

“There were a rash of expected visitors who didn’t make their trips and there were major disparities in the NIL discussion in some instances,” wrote Birmingham. “… That knowledge should provide some insight into the pursuits of David Gabriel-Georges, Benny Easter Jr. and (Marcus) Fakatou. We can safely assume that the numbers in those cases are, if not agreed upon in some way, at least close enough for both sides to trust the interest in genuine and sincere. For the Buckeyes fan who worries about Ohio State not going far enough from a resources standpoint, the fact that DGG, Easter and Fakatou made their trips should quiet that concern a little.”

We assumed Gabriel Georges would make the trip to Columbus, so this isn’t a surprise.

Still, it’s interesting that Ohio State had quite a few players not take their visits due to a large gap in negotiations (more and more programs, including Alabama, are taking this approach).

Gabriel Georges not taking his visit to Ohio State because of a gap in NIL negotiations obviously would’ve been a huge win for the Volunteers. But unfortunately for Tennessee, he made the trip.

The Vols will get their chance this weekend to make their big pitch to Gabriel Georges.
