‘He’s so much further along at this point than I dreamed he would be’ – Vols insider sees a big future for Tennessee true freshman WR
A Tennessee Vols true freshman wide receiver could have a very bright future on Rocky Top.
The Tennessee Vols have three wide receivers with over 500 receiving yards through the first eight games of the season.
Chris Brazzell leads the Vols with 740 receiving yards, followed by Braylon Staley in second with 628 yards, and Mike Matthews in third with 562 yards.
Impressive production for a group of wide receivers that was heavily questioned before the start of the season.
Part of the reason for the impressive numbers is because Brazzell, Matthews, and Staley have rarely come off the field this season as the Vols are dealing with injuries to several young wide receivers.
One of those wide receivers — true freshman Radarious Jackson — returned to action last weekend in Tennessee’s win over the Kentucky Wildcats.
Jackson, a former four-star recruit from Memphis, is a player that’s generating a ton of excitement on Rocky Top.
VolQuest’s Brent Hubbs believes Radarious Jackson has an extremely bright future at Tennessee
VolQuest’s Brent Hubbs joined WNML’s SportsTalk on Tuesday and made it clear that he thinks Jackson has “tremendous upside”.
“If I’m a Tennessee fan, I’m buying stock in Radarious Jackson right now,” said Hubbs. “And I’m buying it hard, because I think you’re getting it a little bit cheaper — because he’s not proven [it to] everybody yet. But I think the upside for him is just tremendous. I think he’s going to be a really good outside receiver.
“He’s got great length, he’s got really good speed, he’s got size. I think he’s loose. And what I mean by that is I think he’s pretty fluid. He’s not a stiff, long stride guy. I think he can cut and will be a good route runner. I’m a big fan of his game. He’s so much further along at this point than I dreamed he would be when he arrived at Tennessee in January. He’s really put in a ton of work.”
Jackson, who has played in just four games due to injury, has five receptions for 59 yards so far this season.
Now that the 6-foot-2 wide receiver is healthy, we should see him get some opportunities in big moments down the stretch, as he will likely be used to give Tennessee’s starting trio of receivers a breather at times.
