Tennessee Vols transfer addition Jordan Norman upset some family members with his decision to transfer from Tulane to UT.

It’s not that they wanted him to stay at Tulane, it’s that they didn’t want him to transfer to Tennessee.

Norman, a redshirt junior who started his career at South Alabama, is from Hoover, AL.

Unsurprisingly, most of his family roots for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

And that isn’t changing just because Norman transferred to Tennessee.

Jordan Norman said his family was “mad” when he transferred to Tennessee

Norman spoke to reporters on Monday after Tennessee’s fifth spring practice and detailed his family’s reaction to him joining the Vols.

“Honestly, I love the history of Tennessee,” said Norman of his transfer decision. “I’m from Bama, so as y’all may know, I’m going against my family [by] coming here. But the history, the fans, and how much y’all support y’all’s players here, I really like that.”

“My whole family is Alabama fans….they were mad,” added Norman. “But at the end of the day, it’s my decision, you know, what I want to do — what I feel like is best for me. So I chose Tennessee.”

Norman said his family told him they’d be rooting for him when he makes a play against Alabama, but otherwise they’ll be cheering for Bama when the Crimson Tide visits Knoxville this fall.

“That’s gonna be a crazy week,” said Norman. “They said the only time they’ll be rooting for me is when I make a play. Any other time, it’s go Bama. But I can understand that.”

Norman is far from the first player to land with a school that his family doesn’t root for.

Former Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Tate Ratledge, for example, famously said last year that he still has family that won’t talk to him after he chose UGA over Tennessee.

It just means more in the SEC.
