Tennessee Vols fans are concerned after seeing Peyton Manning’s son Marshall in another program’s gear, but there’s a good explanation
Marshall Manning, the son of Tennessee Vols legend Peyton Manning, will likely be a top quarterback recruit in the 2030 class.
Marshall Manning, the son of Tennessee Vols legend Peyton Manning, will likely be a top quarterback recruit in the 2030 class.
The rising high school freshman already looks the part of an elite recruit, which is no surprise considering his genetics and the wealth of football knowledge that he’s grown up around.
Marshall hasn’t started the recruiting process yet, but he’s undoubtedly going to be one of the most coveted players in the nation. Every program from Tennessee to Georgia is expected to battle it out for the talented youngster (Georgia head coach Kirby Smart, notably, is close friends with Peyton).
Tennessee will obviously be a program to watch for Marshall. He’s already been spotted at several UT athletics events with Peyton, including some basketball games this season.
Vols fans are hopeful that Marshall will play college football on Rocky Top, which is why some fans were a bit concerned this week when they saw Peyton’s son wearing another team’s gear.
Marshall was seen in a social media clip wearing a Virginia Cavaliers football shirt while throwing.
There’s a good explanation for Marshall’s fashion choice.
Marshall’s mom, Ashley, graduated from Virginia in 1997. So Marshall has a connection to the Cavaliers that’s equal to his connection to the Vols.
Peyton, by the way, spoke at Virginia’s graduation ceremony in 2014.
“While dating my wife, Ashley, a 1997 UVA grad, I spent a good amount of time here in Charlottesville,” said Peyton during that speech. “My wife, Ashley, is the smartest person I know and I know a lot of that has to do with her four years here at UVA.”
It’s far too early to predict where Marshall will play college football, but it certainly won’t be a surprise if he at least takes some visits to Virginia. After all, Marshall’s cousin, Arch, took an official visit to Virginia as a recruit for a similar reason (Arch’s mom, Ellen, is also a Virginia graduate).
