Josh Heupel used the Tennessee Vols’ bye week to visit one of the most coveted recruits in the nation
The Tennessee Vols are off this week, which means it was all about recruiting for UT’s coaching staff.
The Tennessee Vols get a much needed off Saturday this weekend ahead of the program’s final three games of the regular season.
Tennessee’s second bye week of the season comes at a great time as the Vols have numerous players — such as cornerback Colton Hood and linebacker Arion Carter — who have been battling through some injuries in recent weeks. The bye week should allow those players to get healthy-ish for the final stretch of the regular season.

Vols head coach Josh Heupel is using the off week to check in on some of Tennessee’s top recruiting targets.
That includes 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, one of the most coveted recruits in the nation.
Heupel went by The Baylor School in Chattanooga on Thursday to visit Gabriel Georges. Tennessee’s head coach was also there to check in on a couple of Vols commits — 2026 five-star offensive tackle Gabriel Osenda and 2026 three-star cornerback Jamyan Theodore.
VolQuest’s Austin Price told 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will earlier this week that Tennessee currently has the “most momentum” in the recruiting battle for Gabriel Georges.
“Ohio State and Georgia are the other two teams (in the mix for Gabriel Georges),” said Price. “Tennessee is, to me, the team to beat right now. They have the most momentum as we head off into the high school playoffs. I don’t think he’ll take another visit this year. I think the likelihood is [that] he’s done.
“Tennessee’s got a lot of momentum there. They’ll just have to keep the momentum. That thing will drag into next year — like 90 percent of the recruitments will. And so you just have to keep the momentum. But currently, right now, they have a lot of momentum. And having Gabe Osenda and having Jamyan Theodore, two of his teammates, committed here, that’s huge for Tennessee. Because he is very relationship based, and he’s very tight with those kids.”
There’s a long way to go in this recruiting battle, but the Vols are pushing all the right buttons so far.

Former Vols offensive lineman shares thoughts on differences in Tennessee’s play-calling under Alex Golesh and Joey Halzle
A significant topic of discussion surrounding Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel over the last year has centered on whether he should relinquish play-calling duties. It’s been 12 years since a head coach who called his own plays won a national championship (Jimbo Fisher at Florida State in 2013). In the current era of college […]
