The Tennessee Vols could be receiving some good recruiting news in the not-so-distant future.
247Sports' Steve Wiltfong reported on Monday that Tennessee is the program that's believed to be "in the best position" to secure a commitment from 2025 five-star quarterback George MacIntyre.
The Vols are battling Alabama for the coveted recruit (LSU is no longer in the mix after recently receiving a commitment from five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood).
While Tennessee is viewed as the favorite, Alabama is still very much in the mix for MacIntyre.
But according to Wiltfong, the "buzz" is around the Vols when it comes to MacIntyre's looming commitment.
"Trips to Tuscaloosa in the past have been special and he loves everything that program stands for," wrote Wiltfong. "We’ll see if Alabama can pull this one out but the buzz is around Tennessee."
MacIntyre, 6-foot-5/182 lbs from Brentwood, TN, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 2 quarterback in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee. He's also rated as the No. 9 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.
If the Vols miss on MacIntyre (he's expected to commit in late January/early February), we could see Tennessee pivot for four-star quarterback Madden Iamaleava, the brother of current UT quarterback Nico Iamaleava. Madden is rated as the No. 10 quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class and his ranking is expected to rise in the coming months.
For now, though, it sounds like Tennessee is expecting good news in the MacIntyre sweepstakes.
