‘There will definitely be some conversations’ – Jalin Hyatt can make things real awkward with a Giants fan favorite
Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt can make things real awkward in New York if he wants to.
It looked like former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt was on his way out of the Big Apple after he was released by the New York Giants on Sunday.
Hyatt, though, cleared waivers on Monday and was signed to the Giants’ practice squad.
The former Vol was back on the practice field on Monday and he was wearing No. 13, which is the number that Odell Beckham Jr wore during his first stint with the Giants.
OBJ, who hasn’t played in the NFL since 2024 with the Miami Dolphins, made the Giants’ 53-man roster this week.
And he’s hoping to get the No. 13 from Hyatt.
“I think we all know what that means to me,” said Beckham to the New York Daily News of the number. “There will definitely be some conversations. I’ll just say we’ll see what happens, but like I said, it would be an honor and a privilege to put that back on.”
Hyatt could make things awkward if he wants to, but it would probably be best to just approach OBJ and tell him to take the number that the former LSU standout made famous in New York from 2014 to 2018.
After all, Hyatt chose the number in 2023 to honor OBJ, so it only feels right to let him have it back.
“What he did here — had a great career with the Giants and kind of took over,” said Hyatt in 2023 of Beckham Jr. “I was a fan when I was young watching him. High school, college, and now being here, but just with the jersey number, it’s just one of those things I wanted to start my own legacy.”
I’m sure OBJ will take care of Hyatt with some sort of gift for the number.
