For well over a year, 2026 five-star quarterback Faizon Brandon, a Tennessee Vols commit since 2024, had been rated as the No. 1 overall recruit in the nation by 247Sports.

That changed this week when 247Sports revealed their updated rankings.

Brandon is no longer ranked as the No. 1 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class, though he didn’t drop far — he’s now ranked No. 2 overall.

247Sports recruiting analyst Andrew Ivins explained this week on CBS Sports HQ that Brandon, who missed most of his senior season while dealing with a hand injury, didn’t fall in the updated rankings because of how his talent is viewed.

Instead, Brandon fell simply due to the rise of five-star quarterback and Houston commit Keisean Henderson, the new No. 1 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.

“Henderson just turned into our guy,” said Ivins. “The sky is the limit with him. He’s an electric dual-threat talent, but he wants to win with his arm in the pocket…Stylistically, this guy reminds us a lot of Jayden Daniels and Lamar Jackson. He can flip the field with his arm, and when he decides to run, he’s going to produce some explosive plays.”

“Brandon had long been the No. 1 player in the country,” continued Ivins. “He got hurt early on in his senior season. We thought he was going to shut things down and save himself for Tennessee…He returns in the state playoffs, and it was easy to remember why we love him so much.”

“He’s a perfect fit for Josh Heupel and that offense at Tennessee,” added Ivins of Brandon. “He reminds me of Hendon Hooker, but he’s just got a little different gear to him.”

It sounds like Brandon missing most of his senior season combined with the rise of Henderson is the only reason for Tennessee commit’s slight drop in 247Sports’ overall rankings.
