Tennessee Vols chancellor Donde Plowman explained on Wednesday why she wrote a scathing letter this week to NCAA president Charlie Baker.
The letter, which was in response to an NCAA inquiry into Tennessee's handling of NIL deals, was revealed via reporting from ESPN and VolQuest.
Plowman spoke briefly with reporters on Wednesday.
"Think about it this way," began Plowman in a video posted by The Daily Beacon's Caleb Jarreau. "If someone charges you, or your family, or your children, with something that you didn't do, and you think is unfair, you're going to speak up. And so that's kind of how I feel. There was sort of no question, in my mind, about what to do. I made that clear in the letter. When you're leading a university, and someone attacks you, and makes an allegation that isn't true, I will always respond."
"And the most significant thing about that is, I will always stand up for our student athletes," continued Plowman. "And that's where the attack was really going if you want to be honest about it. It won't be the last time I stand up for student athletes."
There's no doubt that Tennessee's chancellor has made it a mission to stand up for student athletes. And I'm sure every UT fan can appreciate her strong and urgent response to the NCAA's new investigation.
The NCAA investigation into Tennessee is a joke, but it’s going to hurt the Vols
This is the last thing the Vols need
