Tennessee RB Daune Morris confirms suspicion about the ultimate football play that he pulled off last weekend in the Vols’ scrimmage
Tennessee’s backfield doesn’t lack for ability heading into the 2026 season.
The Tennessee Vols have plenty of strengths and their own share of question marks heading into the 2026 season. However, offensive playmakers isn’t one area where Vol fans are going to have to worry about this offense, and that includes the running back room.
DeSean Bishop is a returning All-SEC performer and 1000 yard rusher, and he’ll lead the backfield again this year. But behind him, there is plenty of talent, as sophomore Daune Morris showed on Saturday in the Vols’ first scrimmage.
Tennessee was working from the shadow of their own end zone, and Morris got loose for a rare 99-yard touchdown run.
As the scrimmage was not open to the media, Morris, who came to Knoxville from nearby Chattanooga, confirmed the run on Wednesday during his media availability session.
Tennessee RB Daune Morris confirms he ripped off a 99-yard touchdown run in the Vols’ first scrimmage
“It’s always good to be able to show what I can do in certain areas, like being able to just be me in the open field and just do what I’ve normally been doing,” Morris said. “It was ninety-nine (yards). Just being able to just have explosive plays here and there.”
A 99-yard touchdown run has happened exactly once in Tennessee’s football history. In 1977 against Florida in Gainesville, Kelsey Finch took a handoff and tore through the Gators’ defense, got loose up the field, and went all the way for the score. It was a memorable moment in an otherwise forgettable game for the Vols, with Florida winning 27-17.
It was just a scrimmage, but having the burst and the endurance to dust a defense for the entire length of a football field is impressive and rarely seen. As such, Morris might become must-watch TV when his number is called this season.
