The Tennessee Vols haven't officially announced the hiring of Tee Martin to Jeremy Pruitt's staff yet, but the former UT quarterback is already on the road recruiting for the big orange.

Martin told The Athletic's Bruce Feldman this week that putting Tennessee's colors on "just feels right".

Feldman mentioned that Martin is now, geographically, much closer to his son at Clemson and his daughter. His son Kaden, a 2022 quarterback who plays baseball, is also making the move to Knoxville.

For now, it's unclear what Martin's role on Tennessee's staff will be. The assumption is that he will be the wide receivers coach, which is what he coached at USC and Kentucky. But it's also possible he could coach quarterbacks (which he did at New Mexico in 2009).

The Vols currently have 11 on-the-field assistants, but college programs are only allowed 10 on-the-field coaches. So someone will either have to leave the staff or transition to an off-the-field role.

For now, the Vols don't technically have a quarterbacks coach, though that's expected to be new offensive coordinator Jim Chaney.

Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt has the flexibility to move some guys around, depending on who leaves. There are still plenty of assistant coaching vacancies in the college football world, and more will likely happen as NFL coaching staffs are finalized over the next few weeks. So this problem, which is a good problem to have, will likely work itself out.

Either way, the Vols are certainly thrilled to have Martin back on Rocky Top, where he'll provide a boost to recruiting and help further energize the fan base after Pruitt's promising debut season.
