A former Tennessee Vols walk-on defensive back is receiving an opportunity in the NFL after going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft.

According to multiple reports, former Vols walk-on defensive back William Wright is signing with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent.

Wright, 6-foot/198 pounds from Nashville, TN, spent six seasons at Tennessee.

William Wright played some important snaps during his time with the Vols

Despite being a walk-on, Wright played some important snaps for the Vols during his time on Rocky Top.

Wright, for example, recorded two tackles in Tennessee’s memorable win against Alabama in 2022.

While Wright never earned a steady role with the Vols, he proved to be a player that could be plugged into the lineup when there was an injury, often playing over younger and more talented options.

Wright played in 45 career games with one start at cornerback (in his final game, the 2025 Music City Bowl). He totaled 28 tackles and two interceptions (including a pick six last season) during his college career.

Wright probably could’ve transferred and seen more playing time elsewhere, but his decision to stick with the Vols is now being rewarded with an opportunity in the NFL.
