When you talk about breakout stats in college football, there aren’t many better examples than Bowling Green tight end Harold Fannin Jr., who is having an insane 2024 campaign so far. That comes after a really productive sophomore season in 2023, but Fannin has taken his game to a whole other level this fall. In seven games so far, he has hauled in 60 receptions for 873 yards and five touchdowns.
Out of that production, Fannin isn’t just putting up great numbers against lower level competition. He had a dominant performance against Penn State a few weeks ago, making 11 receptions for 137 yards and a touchdown. Fannin also had a strong day against Texas A&M, hauling in eight receptions for 145 yards and one score. No matter who you put in front of Fannin, he continues to impress.
Due to that level of production, there had been a lot of buzz about whether Fannin would enter the 2025 NFL Draft following the season. After a recent conversation with someone around Fannin, it appears that there is a high likelihood that he returns to school for the 2025 season. However, there is an even higher likelihood that he could end up wearing a different uniform.
It is believed, as of now, that Fannin is a clear candidate to check out his options in the transfer portal. A deeper conversation of destinations is something we won’t have for a couple of months, but it is believed that the market will be large. Don’t be surprised if a certain school in the same state is a path of that market if, and when he does enter.
Things can change in a hurry but there are still concerns about Fannin, and his transition to the next level. At a listed 6-4 and 230 pounds, there are some major concerns about his size profile and how his physicality will translate. Due to that, there is a ton of Day Three (rounds 4-7) feedback right now.
A transfer up, and getting into a better strength and conditioning program could be very beneficial for Fannin, who is a very good athlete. It appears the most likely outcome right now, but how the rest of the season goes can be a determiner of that.
