3 dark horse teams to bid high on quarterback Brendan Sorsby in the 2026 NFL Supplemental Draft
The usual suspects have been debated on Brendan Sorsby. But these three teams low key make a ton of sense.
The 2026 NFL Supplemental Draft is not yet officially on. But it’s become one of the more compelling events of the offseason anyway, thanks to the drama around quarterback Brendan Sorsby.
Sorsby’s talent is not in question. The gambling addiction, the subsequent fallout, and the looming potential of a suspension from the league are. Teams have to vet risk, and amid that reality, the franchises with the most dire quarterback needs may not actually be the best fits for Sorsby. That calculus changes, though, when you look at contending teams with incumbent quarterbacks facing their own long-term uncertainty. The teams most enticed may not be the ones desperate for a starter tomorrow. Here are three teams without a need in 2026 who could still be dark horse bidders.
3 dark horse teams who should bid on Brendan Sorsby in the 2026 NFL Supplemental Draft

Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia has earned this reputation over the years. The Eagles have developed a pattern of churning quarterbacks in their pipeline. Jalen Hurts remains the starter, but the questions surrounding his play over the last few seasons won’t go away until his play elevates. 2026 could be a year for clarity with the offensive scheme changes Philadelphia has implemented. But either way, the Eagles’ front office has shown time and again that they want contingency plans at the most important position on the field. Could Brendan Sorsby be next?

Carolina Panthers
Carolina exercised Bryce Young’s fifth-year option this offseason, sure. But Young’s play as a whole has not justified the top overall pick, and arguably has not justified the cost of what the Panthers will pay on that fifth-year option, either. This is a high-stakes season for Young, and, to boot, the Panthers moved on from Andy Dalton in the quarterback room, too.
Carolina has spent heavily in free agency to build up the rest of the roster. Accordingly, they want to keep that nucleus intact rather than tearing it down gradually to accommodate Young’s limitations long-term. Brendan Sorsby gives them the chance to overlap and develop someone new while still having Young on his rookie contract. If Young proves he’s the guy, great. If he doesn’t, Carolina isn’t starting from scratch.

Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta’s quarterback room is one of the most unique constructions in the NFL. Michael Penix Jr. was a former top-10 draft choice, albeit not by this regime. Tua Tagovailoa, signed this offseason, was also a former top-10 draft choice. He’s on a one-year deal. Penix has dealt with injuries and, frankly, not played well. The Falcons have a talented nucleus of skill players and are in the process of paying to keep them around, too.
I don’t think paying either one of these quarterbacks long-term makes sense for Atlanta. Brendan Sorsby would admittedly be a bit redundant in the 2026 quarterback room. How many risky signal callers can one team take?! But with Tagovailoa on a one-year deal and a new regime in place, the Falcons have the flexibility to think beyond this season. Atlanta doesn’t need Sorsby to start right now. They need him to be ready when the current arrangement runs its course.
