The battle for the consensus QB 4 is wide open for the 2024 NFL Draft class.
And the top candidates for the spot are competing this week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.
With this year's Senior Bowl's first two days of practice in the books, I thought it was time to share my thoughts on the quarterbacks competing. But I won't be ranking them based on who is the best in the group; instead, I will rank them based on their current performance in Mobile.
Senior Bowl QB Power Rankings:
1. Michael Penix Jr., Washington
Washington's Michael Penix Jr. was my top-rated QB participating at the Senior Bowl heading into the week, and so far, he has looked it as well. It hasn't been a perfect week for Penix Jr. by any means. He has struggled to connect on the majority of his deep shots and has still struggled with sailing throws that should be easy at times. But his skill has shown through, and his arm talent still has him performing better than the pack so far.
2. Michael Pratt, Tulane
This is probably a surprise to many reading this, and believe me, I am also surprised. Coming into the week, I had Tulane's Michael Pratt ranked fourth among Senior Bowl QBs. But so far he's been sharp through the first two days, and overall I feel that he has improved his draft stock. He hasn't jumped up in my personal QB rankings quite yet, but he is outperforming multiple ranked above him. His touch on passes in the short and medium range have been impressive. I wasn't all that excited to watch him coming into the week, but he has my attention heading into the third and final day of practice on Thursday.
3. Bo Nix, Oregon
The talk heading into the Senior Bowl was that NFL teams are higher on Oregon's Bo Nix than the online consensus seems to be. Nix was the 2nd highest-ranked QB at the Senior Bowl behind only Penix Jr., But so far, he just hasn't impressed me; it feels that he has played this week pretty safe with a lot of his throws and yet still has had multiple mistakes. My biggest concern coming in was how high his ceiling realistically could be at the NFL level, and so far, he hasn't done a thing to change my mind.
4. Carter Bradley, South Alabama
Another surprise for me has been the home field kid himself, Carter Bradley, out of South Alabama. Coming into the week, he was my clear lowest-ranked QB at the Senior Bowl. His first day had struggles, but I think he had the best day of any QB on day 2. There were some incredible throws during 11 on 11, and they seemed significantly more comfortable than on day 1. His play seemed to be noticed by the coaches, as they gave him the first reps with the final 11 on 11 sessions.
5. Spencer Rattler, South Carolina
The biggest disappointment out of this group for me so far this week has been South Carolina's Spencer Rattler. I have him ranked as the third-best QB at this year's Senior Bowl, and he's not been able to hold that position so far through two days. On day two, he just seemed off from the start, as I watched him airmail attempts during WR vs CB one on one's, and it carried over throughout the practice. He arguably has the most pure talent of any QB here this week, but it doesn't matter if he can't produce anything of substance with it.
6. Joe Milton, Tennessee
We haven't seen Milton show his deep ball much in two days, which hurts him for sure. He also can't show his athleticism in throwing drills, which holds him back from his overall potential. His accuracy issues have been very evident in both practices and to me, he just hasn't had any of the "wow" throws I was expecting him to display at this point.
7. Sam Hartman, Notre Dame
Last but not least, well actually, he is the least, Notre Dame's Sam Hartman. Coming into the week Hartman was my 6th ranked QB here this week, only above Bradley. And him falling on his list, honestly, has nothing to do with himself; he has looked like the exact player I scouted prior to this week. He falls down the list here because Bradley, as well as the other six QBs, have simply looked better than him.
