Week zero of the College football season was a nice appetizer for the real thing. The Week 1 slate is officially here, which means all of the top quarterbacks in the 2027 NFL Draft will put fresh film out for evaluators as we march towards April.

But before we get there, I spoke to sources over the summer about some of the best prospects at the position. League personnel and player representation are in agreement that this class could be one of the best in recent memory. But who do the players remind league sources of? I had them rank and compare the 2027 class to prospects of the past, and what I found was very intriguing. Let’s dive in.

2027 NFL Draft Preseason QB Rankings and Comps

1. Arch Manning, Texas

No surprise to see Manning be the highest ranked according to who we polled. His resurgence down the back half of 2025, coupled with his size and pedigree, makes him a tremendous prospect. But who does he remind scouts and evaluators of? That might be surprising. “He’s this class’s Bryce Young, a source told A to Z Sports. “Just a lot bigger and with better physical traits and tools. Teams fall in love with the kid and person as much as they do the player.”

2. Dante Moore, Oregon

Moore slots in just below Manning as a player widely viewed as a top-5 prospect. Had he opted to declare for the 2026 NFL Draft, he would have been in the mix to be the first QB off the board. So who does he remind evaluators of? “He’s C.J. Stroud,” in the words of one source. “Might be a little something missing. He’s good and can be great but the it factor is not there yet. How he develops this season will determine a lot.”

3. LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina

No signal caller in this class has the raw horsepower and tangible traits that Sellers does. You just don’t see that frame, with that athleticism and that arm talent very often. But evaluators question if he can master the nuances of the position like the two ranked above him. That’s why one source told us, “He’s this year’s Anthony Richardson. Tools and traits are off the charts but not a finished product at the QB position. Have to wonder how staying at South Carolina will affect things.”

4. Brendan Sorsby

Sorsby was the focal point of a gambling investigation this past spring and summer, which essentially ended his collegiate career, despite the rollercoaster ride that was his eligibility. But Sorsby as a pure prospect is a tantalizing one. He has true open field speed and a whip for an arm. But that hasn’t stopped some from questioning his long term outlook. “He’s this year’s Willis Levis,” said a source. “You might not want to risk your career on him, but too many tools and too much talent to not take a shot on him.”

5. Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss

A fair amount of analysts believe that Chambliss is the best player in college football. But being the best player in college and an NFL Draft prospect are two different things. Evaluators question how well Chambliss will translate, with one source saying, “He’s Hendon Hooker minus the injuries. Great tape and really accurate, but plays in a gimmicky offense that works in college but never really translates to the NFL.”

6. Jayden Maiava, USC

Maiava made his 2026 debut on Saturday against San Jose State, and you could see why teams love his accuracy and decision-making. So much so that one source said, “He’s this year’s Bo Nix. Go back and boost stock at a good program with a good head coach. He’ll be really productive, and teams will like him.”
