Everyone in, around, and outside the Buffalo Bills universe is incredibly grateful for the update on DB Damar Hamlin from Thursday morning. Adding some much-needed relief to the team and fans alike.

Meaning going into this weekend's matchup against the New England Patriots is much more bearable.

But what about their 'other' matchup? With the Bills-Bengals game still postponed, the league has yet to come to a decision on how they want to proceed.

However, rumors are circulating that the most likely output could actually hurt the Bills.

It looks like the NFL is considering not continuing the Bills-Bengals game. Leaving the game off each team's record and basing the seeding only on win percentage.

This harms Buffalo for the playoffs, and even Cincinnati to a degree who needed to beat Buffalo, and Kansas City to lose a game to secure the number one seed. A much higher ladder to climb.

The Chiefs are still very much alive for the number one seed. If the NFL goes off win percentage, the Chiefs would have the added advantage of 17 games to factor.

A win would give them a slightly higher win percentage, having 14 wins out of a possible 17. Hurting both the Bills and Bengals, who agreed to stop the game with much more pressing issues, as neither was able to continue following Damar Hamlin's collapse.

Assuming all three teams win this weekend, the results would look like this:

  • Buffalo Bills: 13-3 (81.3%)
  • Kansas City Chiefs: 14-3 (82.4%)
  • Cincinnati Bengals: 12-4 (75%)

Even if the Bills win this weekend against New England, a Chiefs win in Las Vegas against the Raiders gives them the number one seed. Despite having gone into Monday night down to both teams. Having lost to both Buffalo and Cincinnati already this season.

There are still other possibilities as well, even if Buffalo is to have 'concede' the number one seed. With the potential of a neutral site conference championship.

No matter what the next course of action is, even though Buffalo did the right thing – agreeing to stop playing – they may be dealt an uphill battle on their way in pursuit of a championship.
