The Buffalo Bills duo of quarterback Josh Allen and wide receiver Amari Cooper just teamed up for the play of the year in the NFL, and it looked like nothing you would expect it to. It was an absurd play that you have to see to believe.
On 1st and goal from the six yard line, Allen threw a quick pass to Cooper, who caught the ball after bobbling it. Defenders were quick to rally to Cooper, and Allen, staying with the play, made himself available. The veteran receiver wisely lateraled the ball back to Allen, who went around the edge and made a heroic dive for the pylon, scoring a touchdown.
On the play, Allen was credited for a passing touchdown, a receiving touchdown, but not a reception. It's a weird bit of scoring that fantasy football managers with Allen on their roster will be thrilled to see — two touchdowns for the price of one.
It's only the fourth time in NFL history that a player has recorded a passing touchdown and receiving touchdown on the same play, and of course Allen, with his athleticism and knack for the unbelievable, is now one of them.
Buffalo had everything going in this game, while limiting San Francisco to an inability to accomplish much at all. The snow game made it nearly impossible for anyone to be able to change direction, with running backs having a massive advantage in this game. Even so, the 49ers were only able to muster one touchdown while it counted, while Allen and the Bills poured it on to the tune of 35 points before the end of the third quarter.
Allen might just be in the driver's seat for the MVP at this point, with Buffalo up to a 10-2 record and Allen showing an ability to carry his team on any given night. That play will be on the highlight reel at the end of the season, no matter what.
