Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was asked about all things Kansas City, with a showdown against the Chiefs coming up next. Once again, Allen proved why he’s the ultimate professional both on and off the field.

With all eyes on the upcoming matchup, of course, the topic of the Chiefs came up. Allen had nothing but praise for Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, sharing some insight into their relationship. Specifically, Allen was asked whether it gets old facing off against Spagnuolo’s defense.

“No, he’s awesome,” Allen said. “After the game, we always kind of share a quick little, I wouldn’t say embrace, but a quick little tap, whatever it is. Got a lot of respect for him, he’s one of the best in the business, if not the best in the business. Shows you a lot of different looks and he knows how to call a football game, that’s for sure.”

Allen was asked if the two normally look for each other after the game, with the reigning MVP clarifying his point.

“Yeah, I think that sometimes it just kind of happens, where we’re walking by,” Allen said. “Sometimes we look for each other but it’s not anything, I don’t think it’s anything more than that. Yes, I would say there’s mutual respect, or at least I hope there is. But yeah, a lot of respect for him.”

Josh Allen opens up about facing the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9

Allen has a decorated history against the Chiefs in both the regular season and the postseason. While Buffalo hasn’t been able to defeat the Chiefs in the playoffs, Allen always shows up and shows out for the matchup between the two teams.

The franchise quarterback was asked about the upcoming matchup and even admitted to giving a cliche response. At the end of the day, the Chiefs’ game is important because it’s the next game, not just because it’s the Chiefs. Both teams look different from the last meeting.

“I mean I’m going to give you a cliche answer here I mean it’s the next one,” Allen said. “Every game is different, every year is different, everything presents itself in a different way. Nothing that happened last year or the year before or the year before that carries over or matters this week.

“They got a lot of guys that returned from last year’s squad, but they got some new guys. They’re doing some different things, we’re doing some different things. But at the end of the day we got to come out and play the best football we can play.”

The big game comes at an exciting time for Bills Mafia, as head coach Sean McDermott announced that receiver Gabe Davis is officially on the practice squad, overcoming his offseason injury. Davis had a special injury designation that has since been removed, allowing him to practice with the team and be called up at any point to the 53-man roster if the team chooses to do so.

Allen’s comments capture what Bills fans have come to expect: Poise, perspective, and laser focus. As Buffalo prepares for one of the most highly anticipated matchups of the season, their leader isn’t taking the bait on hype. It’s all love from Allen to Spagnuolo but the quarterback is keeping things simple: play their best football, no matter the opponent.
