Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown seems to have avoided a season-ending injury Saturday night.

Brown suffered a sprained ankle late in the fourth quarter against the Denver Broncos. Per NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, the injury is not serious enough to immediately rule him out for Week 18.

"This is not considered to be a major injury so he does in fact have a chance to play next week," Rapoport said.

UPDATE: Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz reports that Brown's injury is in fact a high ankle sprain.

Head coach Zac Taylor told reporters Saturday night he didn't know the severity of Brown's ankle injury, only that it was a sprained ankle. The injury occurred when Brown tried to stop himself from scoring in the final 99 seconds of the game. A touchdown would've given the Broncos well over a minute to tie the game with a touchdown of their own.

Because the Bengals had to use an injury timeout for Brown, they couldn't run the clock out for as long as they wanted to and scored a touchdown anyways eight seconds later. The Broncos then responded with a touchdown with just eight seconds remaining.

That Brown's effort-turned-injury was ultimately cancelled out is devastating, but at least it won't cost him a chance at finishing the season next week. He's been one of the very best players in Cincinnati this season and is actually just 10 rushing yards away from crossing 1,000. Only five other running backs in franchise history posted at least 1,000 yards on the ground in one of their first two seasons.

The NFL has yet to announce what day the Bengals will face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 18, but it will either be Saturday or Sunday. Brown will have at least a full week's rest before having to play again regardless.
