The Cincinnati Bengals have something most teams wish they had, a top-five player at quarterback and wide receiver, which is essential in today's NFL that's more predicated on the pass.

Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase have taken their chemistry from their days at LSU to carving up defenses in the pros, and it's led to back-to-back deep playoff runs for the Bengals.

This past Sunday, which was Father's Day, that's dads of Burrow and Chase who both happened to be named Jimmy, joined Bengals Booth Podcast host Dan Hoard for a special "Child of Mine" edition of the show to discuss their sons.

First, Hoard asked the dad's about what their sons thought of each other when they linked up at LSU.

"Joe got there before us," Chase's dad said. "I told Ja'Marr 'They got this quarterback named Joe Burrow he's coming down' he was like 'Dad I don't know that dude, I don't wanna go there' so he didn't really talk about Joe, he didn't know much about Joe. It didn't happen until they got there, until he got there with him, but prior to that he wasn't really concerned about Joe."

I guess that's understandable considering that lack of knowledge Chase had about him, and no matter how much hype a guy gets it doesn't matter to it's seen in person.

Burrow's dad on Joe's thoughts about Chase.

"It took them a while to gel and really come together. Then after that first year in the summer, Joe he just said that he and his teammates and his team had a real chance to be special and he always knew once they started working together that they had a bond that it's just hard to explain and its hard to get that bond with a quarterback and receiver but they had it fairly quickly."

That bond and chemistry led LSU to go 15-0 and win the national championship in 2019. Burrow won the Heisman Trophy after throwing 60 touchdowns and Chase won the Biletnikoff Award for his 20 touchdown receptions.

Burrow was drafted with the first overall pick in 2020. A year later, Cincinnati took Chase with the fifth overall pick. Burrow's dad went on to talk about how he and his family wanted Chase to go to Cincinnati, but Chase's dad wanted him to go to Miami.

A week before Chase got drafted, Burrow sent Chase a text. Chase told his dad, after getting excited, that if he and Burrow got together that they would ball out on the NFL level.

Well, they've done just that.

Burrow, after he tore his ACL as a rookie, has thrown for over 9,000 yards and 69 touchdowns over the last two seasons and currently has the league record for completion percentage (68.2). Chase has registered over 2,500 yards and 22 touchdowns despite missing four games last season and has multiple Pro Bowl selections and an All-Pro nod on his resume.

Hoard would ask each dad what they admire about the other's son. Chase's dad went first.

"Joe is a tough competitor. He's a tough competitor and he's smart. I've seen it myself," he said. "If you hit him he's going to hit you back he's not going to take a lick, he's not going to lay down, he's going to fight, scratch, and claw. I love that he's a tough cookie, and he's real smart. He's real smart.

Burrow's dad had some glowing words about Chase as well.

"His athleticism is just out of this world," he said. "If you see him in person, the way he's built, the way he runs, the way jumps. I've always said he can play linebacker, he could play running back, he can play safety. If they really wanted him to play tight end he could line up in there. That's extraordinary. It's crazy how good of an athlete he is."

It's not just Burrow and Chase that have bonded. The families spent time together at tailgates when Burrow and Chase were at LSU, and both dads have built a good friendship as well.

Hoard asked both dad's about why the families have bonded so much.

"We knew that Ja'Marr and Joe had become over the years really good friends," said Joe's dad. "As we've said, there's a lot of similarities in the two. Just the way they handle things, their mannerisms when they get together. It's like a couple of old junior high classmates or something. We also know how important each one of them is to the other and so that creates even more of a bond."

Chase's dad pretty much echoed those thoughts.

"It's like we're really like the same type of people," he said. "Fun-loving people, like to have a good time, care about their kids, and just all-around good people. Then we found out I think another thing is like we're the only ones we can really talk to because we've experienced so many similar things. As we get into this next level and things are evolving it's like who are we able to turn to? So we were able to turn to them and they helped us out a lot and at the same time I guess we was like a buffer for them because they were able to be relaxed and be themselves."

How can anyone not love this? From the sons to the dads, the Burrow and Chase families have built something special.
