Joe Burrow just pulled a card he’s never used before and the spotlight on the Bengals is now much more intense

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is entering the summer thinking quite highly of his team. It’s got him reminiscing about the offseason before he won his last championship in the sport.
Burrow told local media Wednesday afternoon he sees the 2026 Bengals like he saw the 2019 LSU football team before he led them to an undefeated season that culminated in a College Football Playoff National Championship.
“Go back and watch what I said before the 2019 season at LSU. I feel very similarly about this team,” Burrow said. “I’m so excited to get started and get moving, and I wish we would ramp this right into training camp, so we can continue to improve, because I feel like there’s so much greatness that we’re going to be able to achieve this year. I’m just excited to get going.”
Joe Burrow continues setting high expectations for the Bengals this year
Burrow is entering his seventh year in Cincinnati. He’s been to a Super Bowl, and nearly made it back the very next year. The standard has been sky-high since nearly climbing the mountain at the start of the decade.
Never before has he compared a Bengals team he’s been on to the legendary 2019 LSU squad. That’s a card that should be saved for the right time. Clearly, Burrow thinks it’s now.
This continues the theme of what Burrow has made clear. Last month, he casually predicted a Super Bowl title while answering if the franchise is in a better spot compared to the early days of his pro career.
“Definitely,” Burrow said on May 20. “I think the No. 1 thing is you have to win. We’re gonna go win a lot of games this year and play great, and win a Super Bowl, and everything that comes with that comes with that.”
There’s pressure when it comes to statements like that, as well as what Burrow just said nearly a month later. He’s counting on it.
“I hope so,” Burrow said of the incoming pressure. “That’s great. Put pressure on guys. I love it. I thrive in it. We’ll find out who else does. We have the kind of people that want to be in that spot. I want everybody talking about the Bengals. I want everybody talking about what I’m saying in my press conferences.”
He’s certainly got people talking now. The 2019 LSU team was instantly legendary with him as the face of the roster along with Bengals All-Pro WR Ja’Marr Chase and Minnesota Vikings All-Pro WR Justin Jefferson.
Burrow and Co. will be off until training camp starts on July 29. Expectations for the upcoming season will still be in the clouds by the time he returns.
